While the M179 compared quite favourably in omni mode with an AKG 414 on vocals, in this particular application the 414 won hands down.
M179 Low Toms. I guess this is just another example of how critical mic positioning can be, and that some mics are more forgiving than others. So if you have a set of e604’s that you aren’t digging, try this position out, and see if it doesn’t work much better for you.

The m179 looks solidly built, and it is surprisingly heavy for its small size. The m179 sounds nice on acoustic instruments - clear and present. Which leads to a lot of less work in post processing. I think, I was use to all of the noise. While listening to recorded playback I can now hear my words and were I have to make changes quicker than I did with the Blue Yeti. My kids love the Yeti for gaming so when I get it back, they can have it.
